Those cute puppies in the pet store (or online!) often come with genetic and/or systemic health problems. The financial and emotional cost to the unsuspecting buyer cannot be measured. Giovanni had serious respiratory and systemic health complications. His medical bills were very high. Nothing can erase the stress from seeing him in pain and fearing he may die. He struggled for months on end.

| We must continue the fight to stop the abuse in Puppy Mills.
Did you know pet shop puppies come from Puppy Mills or brokers?
Did you know they were born in horrendous, inhumane conditions?
Did you know pet parents are caged their entire lives without attention or medical care?
Did you know the USDA has the power to make a difference, but is not doing so?
Sweltering in summer and freezing in winter, they live stacked on top of each other in tiny cages.
They sit in pitch black barns & out buildings across the midwest and southeastern states. They are literally bred to death. They are often debarked with a metal rod slammed down their throats. They suffer in a silent, endless hell.
Each day consists of stale, infested food and air steeped in the stench of feces and urine. If water is available at all, it is rancid and dirty. Their lives are full of pain, malnutrition, dehydration, bleeding paws from torn wire cages, flea infestation, open wounds, mange, tooth loss, kidney damage and untreated eye & ear infections that lead to blindness and deafness.

The many long weeks of prayers and around-the-clock medical care finally brought a healthy, happy future for baby Giovanni.

Many puppies do not have a happy ending to their stories. By not buying puppies from pet shops and mass production online brokers, we can stop the demand for more.
Each mill puppy sold opens up a slot for another.
How can you make a difference? Spread the word. Vote for laws that that increase penalties for animal abuse. Vote for laws that signficantly raise the standards for animal welfare. Adopt a dog through a breed rescue, your local shelter or animal sanctuary. Foster a dog until they have a chance to find their forever home. Or buy from a reputable breeder.

| Many groups are working hard to raise awareness, increase oversight and inspection laws and to rescue dogs from the Mills.
The Companion Animal Protection Society is working hard to stop the abuse and suffering of pet shop and puppy mill dogs.
They have made great gains in prosecting abusive mass breeders and shutting them down. Click here to go to their site: CAPS .
